Production Synopsis

Who Does That?  - Written by Miriam Makgill, based on Nowhere Boy by Jeffrey Leask.
Tauranga Intermediate’s Production Baycourt Theatre
5th July, 6th July, 7th July
Who Does That? is Tauranga Intermediate’s musical production for 2011.  It is a glitzy, fun tale about fierce fashionistas and environmental warriors!
The story is set in the rich and fabulous city of Follywood.  Led by their Queen who is beautiful, rich and seriously shallow, the citizens live for parties, fashion and lattes!  The Queen is delighted when her Prime Ministers find two guitar playing boys who can make water with their ‘magic’ music!  They have come to Follywood to seek riches and fame. The Queen and citizens of Follywood live the high life as the magically made water is sold for increasingly extortionate prices!  More and more gorgeous money is flowing in and they are making the most of being super rich.
Not everyone is happy with this wasteful and careless lifestyle choice.  The Rebels try to convince the Queen that selling a resource as precious as water is wrong and irresponsible. When they fail to convince her, they set off on a Quest to find the God of Water and enlist his help in teaching her a lesson.  On their way they pass through Greenville the environmental village. The Mayor and his hippies are shocked as they find out about the water selling.  They organise protests and everything comes to a head as the two sides meet during a talk show on national TV.
The talk show host does nothing to help the tense situation, in fact she seems very uninterested and quite mean!
After a long journey the Rebels find the Water God and sure enough he is horrified at the Queen’s actions. Meanwhile Follywood has run out of water and the Queen and Prime Ministers are starting to suspect that the Guitar Boys are not quite what they thought.  As the Water God returns to Follywood with the Rebels, the Guitar Boys realise they might be in trouble!
The musical includes a variety of dances (from Bollywood to Pacifika and everything in between) and  cast includes colourful characters such as meditating hippies, wealthy city folk, nervous Prime Ministers, a talk show host who is only interested in herself and a very, very ditzy Queen.
The music includes original lyrics by Jessica Ross and Carol Storey.  It is performed by the school rock band, choir and fabulous pianist Andrea Meredith.
A show we hope will truly entertain you!
